Join the Rotary Club of Florence, serving all of Boone County (@FlorenceRotary), on Monday, October 30, 2023 at noon as Dr. Jim Claypool, author and retired professor emeritus from Northern Kentucky University, engages with meeting attendees regarding some of the 39 Kentuckians detailed in his book, Our Fellow Kentuckians: Rascals, Heroes, and Just Plain Uncommon Folk.
Bring your curiosity and thinking cap as Dr. Claypool will challenge attendees’ knowledge of historic personages
hailing from Kentucky in a fun, interactive presentation.
Dr. Claypool is a 1960 graduate of Centre College, receiving his PhD in History from the University of Kentucky in 1968. After a stint as Assistant Professor of History at Murray State University, he became the first employee of Northern Kentucky State College (NKU) on February 1 1970. As Dean of Admissions and Dean of Students, he founded the NKU Athletics Department and the NKU Archives, serving as the school’s first University Archivist and Curator. Over his career as a professor of history, he has authored and edited 13 publications, numerous scholarly and newspaper history articles, and reviews. He is considered an expert on horse racing and the Kentucky Derby, serving as the Track Historian for Turfway Park.
Fun trivia note: Dr. Claypool personally chose NKU’s school colors of black, gold and white.
